A man with outstanding felony warrants surrendered peacefully to law enforcement in Cocoa, Florida, on Thursday after barricading himself inside his residence for approximately two hours. The standoff ended without incident after crisis negotiators convinced the individual to come out voluntarily.
Suspect Flees Officers, Barricades Himself at Home
According to the Cocoa Police Department, the situation began when patrol officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, who then fled and barricaded himself inside a home in the area of Ohio Street. SWAT personnel, crisis negotiators, and deputies from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office were called in to assist with the operation.
No Weapons Involved, No One Else Inside
“The suspect was not armed and there was no one in the home with him,” said Yvonne Martinez of the Cocoa Police Department. After roughly two hours of negotiations, the department’s crisis negotiation team persuaded the man to exit the residence and surrender without further incident.
Felony Warrants for Stolen Property and VIN Tampering
Authorities say the suspect had active felony warrants for dealing in stolen property and altering the vehicle identification number on a motorcycle.
As with all criminal cases, the charges filed against the suspect are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
