Brevard Man Arrested on 10 Child Exploitation Counts; More Charges Anticipated
A 21-year-old Brevard County man has been arrested and charged with 10 counts of possession of material depicting the sexual performance of a child, following an investigation by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
How the Investigation Developed
According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, agents launched the investigation after receiving cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicating that someone at a specific residence had allegedly been accessing child sexual abuse material online. After identifying Brandon Cobb as the suspect through multiple investigative methods, agents executed a search warrant at his home.
Suspect’s Admission
During an interview with investigators, Cobb allegedly admitted to viewing child sexual abuse material on his phone and to exchanging images and videos with other individuals through the Telegram and Signal messaging applications. His phone was seized and transferred to the agency’s Digital Forensics Unit for further examination.
Additional Charges Expected
Investigators indicated they believe additional images and videos will be recovered during the forensic review, and the sheriff’s office said further charges are likely as that analysis continues.
Bond and Community Warning
Cobb was booked into the Brevard County Jail on 10 counts of possession of material depicting the sexual performance of a child. His bond was set at $350,000.
In announcing the arrest, Sheriff Wayne Ivey urged parents to remain actively engaged in monitoring their children’s online activity, warning that messaging applications can be exploited by predators seeking to target minors and distribute exploitative content.
As with all criminal cases, the charges filed against Brandon Cobb are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
