A Viera Charter School elementary teacher was taken into custody in Volusia County after law enforcement officers reportedly discovered approximately 2.7 grams of a substance that tested positive for cocaine inside her vehicle, according to an arrest report filed by deputies.
How the Traffic Stop Unfolded
The incident took place on the evening of March 3, 2026, at roughly 7:11 p.m. Deputies were conducting a routine property check at the New Smyrna Regional Shopping Center, located at 1900 SR 44, when they noticed an occupied car parked at a distance from the other vehicles in the lot. A records check revealed that the vehicle’s license tag was expired and not registered to that particular car.
Upon approaching the driver, identified as Jill Filipowicz, officers observed an open alcoholic beverage described as “Mom Juice” sitting in the center console. Deputies noted in the report that Filipowicz grew visibly more nervous as the encounter continued.
K-9 Search and Voluntary Disclosure
A K-9 unit was deployed and alerted on the vehicle. During the interaction, Filipowicz reportedly told deputies she had “something” she needed to disclose about the contents of her car. She stated that she had obtained cocaine from her ex-boyfriend, according to the arrest report.
After being informed of her Miranda rights, Filipowicz reportedly acknowledged that she had been using cocaine for several months and had tried to hide the substance as the deputy initially approached her vehicle.
Arrest and Charges Filed
Filipowicz was placed under arrest on a charge of cocaine possession and was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail, as documented in the report.
School Has Not Commented
Filipowicz is employed as a teacher at Viera Charter School, an elementary institution in Brevard County. The Space Coast Rocket reached out to the school seeking a statement, but no response had been provided by the time the original report was published.
As with all criminal cases, the charges filed against Jill Filipowicz are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
