Three people — including two teenagers — were wounded in a drive-by shooting late Friday night at Castaway Point Park in Palm Bay, according to preliminary information from law enforcement. Palm Bay Police were dispatched to the area near Palm Bay Road and Main Street NE after callers reported hearing multiple gunshots and people yelling.
How the Shooting Unfolded
Officers learned that three gunshot victims had arrived at the Palm Bay Emergency Room in a white Nissan sedan that showed multiple bullet impacts. Investigators say the victims told police they were sitting inside the vehicle at Castaway Point Park when two vehicles pulled alongside them. The occupants of those vehicles, described as wearing face coverings, opened fire on the Nissan before fleeing the scene. The victims then drove themselves to the hospital for treatment.
Victims’ Conditions
A 21-year-old male suffered six gunshot wounds to the abdomen and arm. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center for further treatment. An 18-year-old victim sustained a single gunshot wound that grazed the head. A 16-year-old suffered graze wounds to the hand and face. Hospital staff initially assessed the injuries as non-life-threatening, though the 21-year-old’s condition warranted the higher level of care.
No Arrests Made; Investigation Ongoing
No arrests had been made as of the initial report, and police said the victims did not provide suspect information. The only vehicle descriptions available were a possible black Mercedes sedan and an SUV believed to be involved in the shooting. The investigation remains active.
