Brevard Public Schools Breaks Ground on New Therapeutic K-12 Day School in Rockledge
ROCKLEDGE, Fla. — Brevard Public Schools has broken ground on a new, purpose-built K-12 Separate Day School designed to serve students with significant behavioral and emotional needs. The facility, to be known as Gardendale Separate Day School, is being constructed on the Kennedy Middle School campus in Rockledge.
About the New School
District officials describe Gardendale as a highly structured, therapeutic learning environment that integrates academic instruction with behavioral guidance and emotional support. Its central Rockledge location was selected to improve accessibility for families across Brevard County’s 72-mile geographic span.
Planned features highlighted by the district include structured classrooms, sensory regulation and calming spaces, dedicated areas for mental health support services, and secure, campus-appropriate facilities designed to meet the specific needs of the student population it will serve.
Who It Will Serve
Separate Day Schools in Florida’s public school system serve students whose educational needs cannot be adequately met in a traditional school setting due to behavioral, emotional, or other significant challenges. These students continue to receive a free and appropriate public education in a more specialized environment.
Next Steps
Construction on the Gardendale Separate Day School began following the groundbreaking ceremony in early February 2026. Brevard Public Schools has not announced a specific completion or opening date for the facility. The project represents a significant investment by the district in specialized educational infrastructure to support some of its most vulnerable students.
