The Cocoa Beach Police Department has officially appointed Kris Kuehn as its new Chief of Police, effective January 15, 2026. The selection marks a milestone for a longtime community member who has dedicated more than two decades to law enforcement in Cocoa Beach.
A Lifelong Resident and Career Officer
Chief Kuehn grew up in Cocoa Beach and is a graduate of Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School. He has been a fixture in the local community for over 27 years. He joined the Cocoa Beach Police Department in 2005 and steadily advanced through the ranks over the following two decades, serving in roles that include Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Major, and most recently Deputy Chief.
Education and Professional Credentials
Chief Kuehn holds a Bachelor of Science in Administration and a Master of Public Administration. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 292 — a prestigious program that provides advanced training for law enforcement leaders from across the United States and around the world.
A Commitment to Community Policing
Following his formal appointment, Chief Kuehn spoke about his priorities and vision for the department.
“It is my honor and privilege to serve as your Chief of Police, representing the dedicated men and women committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our 11,389 residents and more than 2.5 million visitors each year,” Kuehn said. “As your Police Chief, I will lead with compassion and humility. Through transparency and mutual respect, the members of the Cocoa Beach Police Department will continue to protect and serve this community while building trust, fostering partnerships, and ensuring the safety of all who live, work, and visit our city.”
